As I sit in my small Tokyo apartment, sipping Matcha and reflecting on my journey, I’m reminded of the countless Indonesians who’ve made the same leap. You’ve watched the YouTube videos. You’ve studied the salary charts. And still, you’re not sure if Japan is really for someone like you.
The Struggle is Real
I’ve been in your shoes, navigating the complex world of visa applications, language requirements, and cultural differences. The fear of being rejected, the pressure from family and friends to stay in Indonesia, and the uncertainty about life in Japan can be overwhelming. Many of my friends back home opted for the seemingly easier route of working in the Middle East, but I was determined to make Japan my home.
A Turning Point
My turning point came when I stumbled upon an online community of Indonesians living and working in Japan. They shared their stories, tips, and experiences, which helped me understand the process and build connections. I learned about the various visa types, such as the Specified Skilled Worker visa, and the importance of having a strong proficiency in Japanese, especially for careers like kaigo (caregiving). I also discovered that many Japanese companies value Indonesian workers for their strong work ethic and cultural adaptability.
Practical Steps to Make the Move
If you’re considering making the move, here are some practical steps to take:
- Research the different visa types, such as the Specified Skilled Worker visa, and the requirements for each.
- Improve your Japanese language skills, aiming for at least N3 level to increase your chances of getting hired.
- Look into job opportunities in cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, where many Indonesian workers have found success.
- Salary ranges vary, but you can expect to earn between ¥250,000 to ¥400,000 per month, depending on your job and experience.
A Glimpse into the Data
According to my research, the number of Indonesian workers in Japan has been increasing steadily over the past few years, with over 10,000 workers arriving in 2022 alone. But what does this really mean? It means that you too can be a part of this growing community, with access to job opportunities and a chance to experience the vibrant culture of Japan.
Envisioning Your Future
Imagine living in a cozy Tokyo apartment, working as a caregiver and earning a stable income. Imagine exploring the vibrant cities of Osaka and Kyoto, trying new foods, and making lifelong friends. The possibilities are endless, and the sense of accomplishment and pride you’ll feel will be worth all the hard work and dedication.
