As I reflect on my decade-long career, I’ve noticed an interesting trend: thousands of Indonesians are choosing Japan over other countries. It’s not just about job opportunities – although those are definitely available. It’s the unique combination of cultural experiences and social security that’s drawing them in. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside foreign colleagues, including Indonesians who’ve made Japan their home.
Their Stories
I’ve seen my friends and colleagues thrive in Japan’s job market. Tuan, a software engineer from Hanoi, has excelled in the tech industry. Priya from Mumbai, who joined our team last year, has been impressed by the country’s social security system. Ramon from Cebu is considering making the move to Japan for its unique cultural experiences.
One of the reasons many foreign workers are drawn to Japan is its caregiver industry. The Japanese government has even introduced the Specified Skilled Worker visa to attract more foreign workers to this sector. My colleague Sri from Jakarta has found a rewarding career path in caregiving.

Of course, there are challenges to working in Japan. Many foreign workers struggle with the language barrier and cultural differences. But with the right skills and knowledge, these challenges can be overcome. I’ve seen my friends and colleagues struggle at first, but they’ve eventually thrived in their careers.
